STIG "STIKKAN" ANDERSON

Stig Erik Leopold Anderson was born 25th January 1931 in Mariestad, a small Swedish town. He grew up outside Mariestad in Hova. Stig quit school when he was 13 years old and started working. With the money he bought a guitar and a guitar course. Stig became interested in jazz at an early stage and in 1946 he joined Puttes Orchestra. The year after that in became Bobby's Orchestra from Töreboda. Stig Anderson was 16 years old when he wrote the first song, it is called Tivedshambo. The autumn 1948 Stikkan started school again in Ingesund. In Ingesund he met Bengt Bernhag and Börje Crona. The free of them formed the group Stig Anderson och Hans Mosiga Gräddklickar. In Ingesund Stig also met in first time Gudrun, who was to be his wife in August 1955.
The spring 1951 Stig quit the school and moved to Karlstad, where he was to graduated as a teacher. Then came military service.
 

    After military service in 1953 Stikkan moved to Stockholm. 1954-1955 he toured the Folkparks together with Börje Crona. They wroted Det Blir Inget Bröllop På Lördag, which reached the charts with Georg Adelly(Philips P 50041 H).
    1958 the world Soccer Championship was held in Sweden. This time Stig got his first big success, when legendary Swedish football hero Nacka Skoglund recorded Stikkan wroted Vi Hänger Med (Philips 350 200 PF).
 
 
 
 
 

The definitive breakthrough was to be in 1959, when Lill-Babs recorded Är Du Kär I Mig Änny Klas-Göran? (Karusell KSEP 3198) . Song wasn't  a hit only in Sweden. It was big hit in Scandinavia and Holland.
1963 Stig Anderson started the recording company POLAR MUSIC AB with the old companion Bengt Bernhag. Polar got a lucky start through talent of Hootenanny Singers and 18-years old Björn Ulvaeuse. Single Jag väntar vid min mila (Polar POS 1001)  was first Polar Music AB recording. Next big thing was finnish melody and dance Letkis Jenka. Stig bought the rights for this song in all the contries he could, exept for UK and USA.

1967 Stikkan got to heard young Mats Olin sing his daddy Stig Olin wroted song Jag Tror På Sommaren (Polar POS 1028). Stikkan liked it immediately and bought the melody. Song becam that summers biggest hit and Mats becam an idol.
1969 the trumpetman Arne Lamberth recorded for Polar Music the lead motive of TV scene "Nana". His LP "Arne Lamberth" (Polar POLL 107)  and single Nana  (Polar POS 1071) brought many swedish crowns to Polar Music.
By the end of the 1960s, Stig and Bengt had formed yet another publishing company called Union Songs AB together with Björn Ulvaeus and former Hep Stars member Benny Andersson. Stig saw the potential in the Andersson-Ulvaeus songwriting and producing partnership and they published his first LP "Lycka" (POLS 226)  in 1970.
 

In January 1971 Stig got to heard a young girl from Halmstad Lena Andersson an entire on the radioshow "Midnight Hour". A couple days later the contract with Lena was signed. She made a small sensatsion by going in at #1 on Svensktoppen with her first single Är Det Konstigt Att Man Längtar Bort Nån Gång? (Polar POS 1124). In October yong 15-years old Ted Gärdestad recorded his first single Hela Värladen Runt (Polar POS 1146)  and album "Undringar" (Polar POLS 234). All four future ABBA member - Agnetha, Björn, Benny & Frida was involved.
Next became ABBA-time and Stig was considered as the fifth member of the group.


Stig was Sweden's most productive composer and songwriter. He wrote more than 3000 song lyrics. In 1969 he was awardeda Grammyis for the lyricks to Gröna Små Äpplen, Mamma Är Lik Sin Mamma & Ljuva sextital (Polar POS 1072).
1974 Stig was awarded as "Mr. Trendsetter" by the US music industry magazine "Billboard". Only one European was awarded befor with this nomination, it was Beatle's manager Brian Epstein.

In 1989 it was announced that Stig was going to sell his company to PolyGram.  For 42 000 000 swedish crowns Stig Anderson made a generous donation to The Royal Swedish Academy of Music with the aim of creating what was to become known as The Stig Anderson Polar Music Price Fund of the Royal Swedish Academy of Music.
Polar Music Prize inception in 1992. In this year Paul McCartney were awarded and  also the Baltic States were awarded the prize to encourage them in their work for protection of copyright.


 

1994 Stig continued to be involved in the activities of Sweden Music and Polar, and put together several compilations called "Stikkan Anderson Väljer Polars Pärlor" .
 

 On 12th September 1997 Stig Anderson died of a heart attack at the age of 66.
 

3rd May 2007 was issued  album "TEXT: STIKKAN ANDERSON 43 SÅNGER" (Polar 060251725707) . Doubel-CD contains 43 songs with Stikkan wroted Swedish text.
